“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Bilbo Baggins, The Fellowship of the Ring
We are a couple of young Norfolk* bumpkins with an enjoyment for travel that far exceeds our capacity to do so. ‘Slow ye down, bor’ being a Norfolk saying, we have adopted it for our take on travel where it is all too easy to rush through things to try and ‘see it all’ (which, by the way, is basically impossible). Both teachers, we have plenty of holiday but have to budget to make the best of things abroad or in the UK. The costs soar once those kids leave the school gates! Over the course of our time together we have had quite a few trips and seek to share what small wisdoms we have gained with anyone with an interest in insider tips or unfortunate anecdotes. Both give practical advice of what to do and, as importantly, what not to do.
Currently, we are planning our wedding and honeymoon to the Cook Islands (it must be said, we are more excited about the latter). Our interests are varied, though we both enjoy music and the arts. Alistair is a history loving wild-camping wannabe, held back by an abnormal anxiety of ‘what’s for dinner’. He hails from Welsh and Caribbean lineage, though is basically English (much to his chagrin). Hannah is a proper Norfolk gal of farming stock: a keen musician and illustrator who loves luxury, warmth and Disney. She also claims to hate packing, though her meticulous listing, precise folding routine and compartmentalisation of packed items says otherwise. Together, we make quite the team! We both share a yearning for the great outdoors and have a healthy suspicion of cities (quite rightly, I might add).
We hope you enjoy our musings on modern travel, travellers, food, culture and the places that we have been. Disclosing anything that you ought to be aware of is a primary aim, as is entertainment. Hopefully you will enjoy what you read and we can continue to update our blog frequently with many journeys!
